Privacy
Fridge Poet has no accounts. We never ask for your name, email or phone number, and the app does not use your phone's location (GPS). This page lists what leaves your phone, where it goes and how long it is kept. A short version is in the app under Settings → Privacy policy.

What stays on your phone
Dish photos, recent recipes, Recently Deleted, your shopping list, stars and streaks stay on your phone. Your pantry, diet, kitchen tools and cooking profile are stored on your phone too, and the parts a recipe needs are sent with it (see AI features). On Android, the system may include the app's data in your own Google backup.
Cookbook backup
Your saved recipes and boards are copied to our server (hosted by Cloudflare), so reinstalling the app does not lose them. A saved recipe includes what you added to it: your ingredients and notes, your rating, your chats with the chef about it, earlier versions, and the link it came from. Dish photos are not uploaded.
The copy is stored under a one-way code made from an ID on your device, not under your name. On Android the ID is the device's Android ID. On iPhone it is a random ID the app creates once and keeps in the device's keychain, never synced to iCloud. The ID itself never leaves your phone, and the code cannot be turned back into it.
The copy is deleted when you tap "Clear all saved recipes" in Settings, or when you remove your last saved recipe, or automatically a year after your last change. Uninstalling the app does not delete it.
Messages to us
If you write to us in the app, your messages are stored on our server under the same one-way code as the backup, for up to 180 days after the last one. They reach us through Telegram, so Telegram's servers carry them. Each message includes the app version, your platform and your app language, and, if you write from a recipe, that recipe's title and chef (or, after a recipe fails, the type of error). "Clear all saved recipes" does not delete them. To delete a conversation sooner, email hello@fridgepoet.app.
AI features
To write recipes and answer you, our server passes what you enter to an AI provider:
- Writing a recipe: your ingredients (with any amounts you typed), your wish, the chef you chose, and your diet, pantry, country, skill level and kitchen tools. It also sends the titles of your 20 most recent recipes, so the chef doesn't repeat them.
- Chatting with the chef, changing a recipe or asking for substitutes: your messages and the recipe.
- Importing a recipe from a link: the link. Our server opens the page, or for TikTok and YouTube the video's details, to find the recipe. If that fails, it asks Jina Reader (r.jina.ai) to read the page.
- Importing a recipe from a photo: your phone reads the text and sends only the text.
- Scanning your fridge: the photo, sent to Google Gemini to spot ingredients.
- Cook-Off: the text of what you say, to pick out ingredients.
We don't pass your IP address or device details to AI providers.
Our server tries these providers in order until one answers, so a request can reach more than one of them: Groq, OpenRouter, DeepSeek, Cerebras, Mistral, Google Gemini (free, then paid), NVIDIA and Cloudflare Workers AI. Fridge photos go only to Google Gemini. If Google refuses a request because of the region it comes from, our server sends it again from the United States.
Our server does not store the photos or text it passes to AI providers. It keeps the AI's recipes for up to 30 days, filed under a code made from the request and not linked to you, so the same request can be answered again faster. Links you import may appear in our server's logs.
AI providers' own terms
Each AI provider has its own privacy terms. Some free AI services, including Google Gemini's, may keep what they receive, use it to improve their AI and let people review it.
Voice
Your phone's speech recognition turns speech into text, and Apple or Google may process the audio on their servers. Fridge Poet never records or uploads audio. In Cook-Off, the text is then sent to an AI provider to pick out ingredients.
Usage and crashes
We use PostHog (US servers) to see which features are used and why the app crashes. PostHog receives a random install ID, device and app details (such as model, system version, app version and language), which features you use, and crash reports. It also receives the names of ingredients we have no picture for, with the recipe's title.
PostHog also receives your IP address and the city and country worked out from it. It keeps this data for 1 year. Separately, our server keeps your IP address for up to 2 days to stop abuse.
You can turn this off in Settings → Share usage and crash data. The app then sends nothing to PostHog.
Google's on-device text recognition, which reads recipe photos, sends Google device and performance details for its own diagnostics.
Payments
Apple or Google handles payment; we never see your card details. RevenueCat, our subscription service, checks your subscription using a random ID it creates, and receives your purchases and the app's PostHog install ID. On iPhone it also asks Apple whether an Apple Search Ads ad led to your install, through Apple's AdServices; this uses no advertising ID and no tracking. If you redeem a gift code, the code becomes your RevenueCat ID.
Other services the app contacts
The app downloads its fonts from Google Fonts. Pictures of recipes imported from the web load from the website they came from. On Android, Google Play checks for app updates, and the App Store or Google Play shows review prompts. Each of these sees your IP address.
This website
fridgepoet.app has no analytics or advertising scripts. If you join the waitlist, your email address, language and the page you came from go to Loops, our email service, so we can tell you about launches. Our server keeps those details, with a one-way code instead of your email, for up to 5 years. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
If you send the feedback form, we keep your answers and your name, if you give one, for 180 days, with part of your IP address to stop spam.

Your choices
- To stop sending usage and crash data, turn off Settings → Share usage and crash data.
- To delete your cookbook backup, tap Settings → "Clear all saved recipes".

Where data is processed
Our server runs on Cloudflare's network, close to you. AI providers, PostHog, RevenueCat, Telegram and Loops may process data in the United States and other countries.
Children
Fridge Poet is a general-audience cooking app, not aimed at children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app.
